Wild Fires

Low humidity, high winds and no rain are West Texas worst nightmare! We are a tinderbox just waiting for the next wild fire to strike.  God is good and many homes were spared last night as the wind whipped the fires from one pasture to the next. Our son and his family live on what use to be the 96 Ranch, one of the oldest ranches in the county. The fire raged all around his home and for several hours we were very concerned that they might be burned out. I called my daughter and mom and emailed some friends to start a prayer chain...this circle can't be broken, as the fire raged all around their place and they are still standing! Praise God!
Now I wish he would hear our prayers for rain. Keep praying!

LONGHORN

LONGHORN BY LEADA WOOD©

This was a fun little painting, only 5X7, a watercolor on top of a section of Texas map. I copied the map, collaged it onto a piece of matt board then put a layer of 1/2 gesso, 1/2 water over the map, drew my little longhorn onto the map and painted with watercolors. I made sure Austin was showing as this little gem is going to Austin for the 5X7 ART SPLURGE at the Arthouse. The show opens May 12th.

Leada Wood Mixed Media Demo

I had the honor of doing a mixed media demo for the Odessa Art Association at the Ellen Noel Art Museum. It was fun to see old friends and make new ones. It takes lots of supplies to do mixed media but a lot of them  are found items and I can repurpose things others consider trash! I guess you could say I am a green artist.

Fun Furniture

Not only do I enjoy painting on paper and canvas, I also enjoy painting furniture. Bright happy colors are all over my studio. When you walk in the door it brightens you day no matter your mood! A cheerful heart does good like medicine, and I do strive to be cheerful. Enjoy the journey!

Texas Longhorn

I had the pleasure of visiting a longhorn ranch where heirloom registered longhorn lived. We wandered in among them and took hundreds of pictures. Longhorn are a very hardy breed and very well adapted to the climate here in Texas. There numbers were endangered at one time but thanks to ranchers who are helping to repopulate they are increasing.

Mollie and Me

Well Mollie and me have been busy at my studio, she keeps my chair warm while I scurry around from one painting to the next. We have been helping the littles get ready for the children's art show coming up in a week or so. They have been painting their hearts out trying to get their best work finished. They are all done now and framed and ready to hang, so sweet and already wonderful artists. I will post pictures of them later with their new works.
