Day Thirty-30-30 Challenge by Leada Wood, Texas Artist

              Aloha copyright 2015 Leada Wood

It's been fun but as they say all good things must come to an end! The challenge has really given me a jump start on the new year. I can see taking several of these small paintings and developing them into a larger format and changing them into something new. I hope you have enjoyed seeing where the challenge has taken me,,,it's been quite a journey. Life goes on and sometimes it was difficult to get a painting a day finished....but I preserved and finished.

Here is a look at all of them together. Thank you for looking in now and again to see what I am up to. Have a wonderful weekend... And as they say in Texas "Happy trails until we meet again".

Day Twenty Six-30-30 Challenge By Leada Wood, Texas Artist

Cherry Blossom, copyright 2015 Leada Wood

Switching gears and doing some mixed media, layers of paint, paper and more paint. It is good to escape reality sometimes and do a little day dreaming. Artist sometimes live in the world they imagine.

I like the tee shirt with the saying: "I am an ARTIST that means I live in a crazy fantasy world with unrealistic expectations. Thank you for understanding." Hmmm...I may have to get one of those.

Only four more days to go with this challenge and I won't have to push and juggle my life so hard. A little more leisurely pace. I welcome it...although it has been fun to see if I could do it and keep up with my real life. I thank you dear readers for your comments and support!

You can see all the artist in the challenge here: www.lesliesaeta.blogspot.com

Day Twenty Five 30-30 Challenge by Leada Wood, Texas Artist

Sun Kissed copyright 2015 Leada Wood

One of my favorite flowers and I paint them often. Their cheery yellow color would brighten up the greyest day. I like to paint them juxtaposed against the bright blue Texas sky...I may have used my artistic license a little on the sky. I am so thankful the sunflower is one of our native flowers and grow wild up and down our country roads along with Mexican Hats, Indian Paintbrush, Bluebonnets and lots of others. I think I may have spring fever.

Day Twenty Four-30-30 Challenge by Leada Wood, Texas Artist

Merry Legs copyright 2015 Leada Wood

When I am painting a title for the painting pops into my head or sometimes the name of the painting comes first. Sometimes a name doesn't come at all and I have to enlist the help of Bootman and we brainstorm. One  of my pet peeves as an artist is folks not naming their creations...kind of like bringing a child into the world and not giving it a name....Untitled...I am sure you have seen that name around.

My Mama had a horse named Merry Legs when she was a girl. I don't know what the horse looked like but the name kept popping into my head as I was doing this painting. I thought it would be nice to honor my Mama and name this painting Merry Legs. This painting is watercolor and is available. Thanks for stopping by!

Winter Treat copyright 2015 Leada Wood

Day 23 of the 30 paintings in 30 days and my brain is starting to feel a little numb. Easier to do the paintings than come up with a title and blog about them. Hope you are hanging in there with me 😳
See you tomorrow!

Day Twenty Two-30-30 Challenge by Leada Wood, Texas Artist

Some Beach Somewhere, copyright 2015 Leada Wood

On this cold great January day I was thinking of nice warm beaches and how I wish I was there! Some Beach Somewhere is one of Bootmans favorite songs therefore I decided to borrow it for the title of my painting. I hope Blake doesn't mind....

Day Nineteen-30-30 Challenge by Leada Wood, Texas Artist

Blowing In The Wind, Copyright 2015 Leada Wood

Beautiful spring like days in Texas makes me think of Tulip time. Hopefully we had enough moisture in the form of ice to bring the tulips up. I have purple, red and pink ones planted. They don't last long in our strong winds but bring beautiful color for a little while. Have a great week!

Day Eighteem-30-30 Challenge by Leada Wood, Texas Artist

Glamour Gal Copyright 2015 Leada Wood

It was such a beautiful, sunshiny day in Texas I hated to be indoors! Glamour Gal beckoned me and I heeded her call, but I ran in and out while paint dried so the best of both worlds as they say. I am sure if it wasn't for the challenge Glamour Gal would not have been created today.

My Grandma had a Basett Hound named Bobo...I still can see him in my minds eye. Bobo was a large Basett but of course I was pretty small so everything looked big.  I remember my cousins and I standing peering over the little fence of his outdoors cage. I don't know what fascinated me about Bobo...maybe it was his sad eyes. Grandma  would let us feed Bobo little doggie treats and one of the kids gave our younger cousin a doggie treat too. I think someone got a spanking!

Day Sixteen - 30-30 Challenge by Leada Wood, Texas Artist

So Happy Together Copyright 2015 Leada Wood

Day Sixteen of the 30 paintings in 30 days challenge and I am on the down hill run! Whoohoo! It is amazing how when you get in the groove how many more paintings come to mind. Yes they are rather simple and small but fun to create. I sometimes do anywhere from one to 3 drawings at night after hours. I have plans that some of these will develop further into larger more complex paintings...the ole creative juices are flowing again. That is one reason I enjoy doing the challenge it gets me going after all the holidays.

So Happy Together was created on one of those canvas boards I started right before the challenge. I did a previous post on them about working in a series. That is the nice thing about putting layers of collage and paint on...you have a ready surface when an idea strikes and you can develop it further.  Oh and preparing the canvas was allowed in the challenge!

Day Fourteen-30-30 Challenge by Leada Wood, Texas Artist

                Goldfinch Copyright 2015 Leada Wood

These cold grey winter days have brought many birds to our feeders. Recently we have spotted a flock of Goldfinches hanging around with the Cardinals,Dove,Sparrows and the rest of the gang. We also had a Canadian Goose land in our pool! I love the little birdies and enjoy their antics, entertaining to say the least...then again I am easily entertained.

Day Thirteen-30-30 Challenge by Leada Wood, Texas Artist

            "Valentine" copyright 2015 Leada Wood

I had more fun painting this Dalmatian...it brought back memories. When our kids were young we decided to get two Dalmatians and raise them. Daisy and Dagwood were good dogs and they had their first litter of nine pups! At the time we had a six month old, a two year old and a six year old and 11 dogs. Life was good...until the pups got red mange. I had to bathe the pups every day in a special solution to get rid of it. As soon as those pups got old enough we gave them all away to good homes and thus ended our dog business. I still like Dalmatians but I prefer just to paint them. Thanks for stopping by!

Day Twelve-30-30 Challenge by Leada Wood, Texas Artist

Southern Belle,copyright 2015 Leada Wood

It is getting harder to complete a painting everyday, if I was a quitter, today would have been the day! Over 1200 artists started this challenge and only around 300 are still posting everyday so I guess I am doing ok. I'm sure some folks think that painting is all I have to do but they are wrong! I still have laundry, cooking, cleaning, shopping, work and anything else that is thrown my way. Not much down time, reading or watching tv but I am still going.....not much longer...I can do this!

Day Eleven-30-30 Challenge by Leada Wood, Texas Artist

Roadrunner Copyright 2015 Leada Wood

Roadrunners fascinate me and they live in the pasture around our house so it is fun to watch them. I have one who brings gifts of rocks and sticks and lays them at our front door. I catch them sneaking over the back fence and peaking in the glass doors. Apparently they are very curious birds and fearless. They catch lizards and snakes and other critters. Roadrunners are monogamous birds and offer gifts during courtship...guess that cuckoo is courting his reflection in the glass. The roadrunners  are a member of the cuckoo family and maybe why they fit in on our place!

Day Ten-30-30 Challenge by Leada Wood, Texas Artist

This Little Piggy, Copyright 2015 Leada Wood

This Little Piggy painting was quite a challenge! I taught two art classes and attended a stockshow the past 24 hours..sometimes it's hard to squeeze painting in but I did...in starts and stops, bits and pieces and he is done. Whew! This Little piggy is ready for market.

The stocks shows are always such fun to watch. I was especially proud of my grandsons who received senior and junior showman. These boys work so hard with their animals...all the kids do. One young mans goat caught pneumonia and died during the night before the show. My heart broke for him...all those months spent feeding, walking and grooming the animal and losing him before the first show. I guess these are good life lessons for them, even when it's the school of hard knocks.

Have a great weekend and thanks for stopping by!

Day Nine-30-30 Challenge by Leada Wood

It's Show Time Copyright 2015 Leada Wood

It is show time in Texas...stockshow that is. My grandsons raise Boer goats and it is a lot of work and dedication, for the boys as well as their parents. During ice storms, snow storms or rainy weather those goats have to be fed, watered and walked. Then comes the fun of the show! Those goats still have to be fed, watered and walked but at least they do get to go to some fun places to show. I am proud of all the young people learning hard work and dedication through 4H and FFA. Good luck boys!

Day 8 of the 30 in 30 Challenge. I am still playing with palette knives even bought a new one yesterday. A smaller one to give more control...really? Painting with a palette knife is suppose to loosen you up...to set you free! So I buy a smaller knife just in case I need it...smile.
Thanks for stopping by!

Whoo Hoo one week of the challenge is done and I am still in! Not in a flower mood today so I painted this kitty. Grey Kitty is 8x8 acrylic on canvas and is available.

Tulip Time ©2015 Leada Wood
Day Six...already starting to be a struggle...not the painting...but all the blogging and social media. Life goes on as they say and that is part of the challenge. I chose to do this and I am enjoying seeing that I can be disciplined... at least in some things...smile.
I am still painting small and simple, trying out my palette knives that have been on a shelf far too long. It is a learning curve...I am letting the colors mix on the canvas as I slather them on...rich creamy colors.
The weather is still cold...I know it's winter it's suppose to be, and no ice! I am headed to the studio! Thanks for stopping by!

Day Five-30/30 Challenge by Leada Wood, Texas Artist

Ruby Red, copyright 2015 Leada Wood

Nothing says spring to me like Tulips...and with all the ice and cold weather I have been thinking a lot about it. Red is a warm color and  I thought with Valentine right around the corner they just seemed to go together. During this challenge I have decided to venture out and learn new things...like painting with a palette knife. Painting with a palette knife is very different than painting with brushes and I do like the nice texture it gives to the painting. This little 8x8 painting is available.

Day Four- 30/30Challenge by Leada Wood, Texas Artist

Mr. Red Bird, copyright 2015 Leada Wood

The sun is shining today in Texas but it is still very cold outside. The birds have been busy flitting around gathering seeds , fluffing their feathers and trying to stay warm. I just love to watch them and especially Mr. Red Bird as he really brightens up the day with his antics. He is constantly darting to and fro and it is very hard to get his photo but I manage. I guess when you are a brilliant red it makes you an easy target for cat predators. That reminds me...I had better go feed the cats!
What kind of birds are you enjoying around your feeders?

Day Three- 30/30 Challenge by Leada Wood, Texas Artist

Third day of Leslie Saeta's January Challenge. Still cold and icy in Texas but the sun is shining and the ice is melting as I type and I am flying the coup today! I am doing small paintings so I thought I would do a notecard and catch up on some corespondence, sort of killing two birds with one stone. Plus it is fun to get a letter in the mail!

Our kids have Corgis and they are fun dogs to have...full of life and very protective of their kids...good snake finders too. I enjoy painting all kind of animals but had not tried a Corgi until today. This is a 5x7 watercolor, and my first Corgi. I hope my grand daughter Katie will like it as it is a thank you note for her.

Day Two- 30 Paintings In 30 Days

Hot Cocoa by Leada Wood copyright 2015

The weather is still chilly and icy as I guess winter should be, but living in Texas we are just not use to that! Cold weather calls for lots of hot cocoa and coffee at our house...mostly coffee. This little snowman mug has held lots of hot coca in his day and I decided he would be fun to paint. I don't have a theme in mind for the challenge as sometimes I do, I am just going where my muse takes me. Stay warm and thanks for stopping by!

Day One-30 Paintings In 30 Days

Citron by Leada Wood, copyright 2015

Happy 2015 ! I am starting this new year with Leslie Saeta's 30 paintings in 30 days challenge. This is my third time to participate. It is always an exciting event and stretches me to paint every day. I learned in the first challenge that painting small is the way to go. I hope you follow along and don't mind my post everyday as that is another challenge in itself! Thanks for dropping by!
