Every Child Is An Artist, by Leada Wood, Texas Artist

Leada Wood, Watercolor, Mixed Media, Collage

Who doesn't love yummy strawberries dipped in chocolate! It is a tradition for the girls and I to dip a bunch of berries for the reception for the children's art show and other special occasions. Spring has arrived!

A labor of love for sure.

This cutie is enjoying her art class and using watercolor to paint her girly minion. Lots of concentration going on.

This young lady likes to paint coffee cups and has done several different paintings of them.

These kiddos are in the zone working on their projects.

These girly girls are seasoned artists with years of experience under their belts. Always something new to learn and share in the art world. Fun times at Studio Twenty!

"Every child is an artist. The problem is how to remain an artist once we grow up."

Caution! Artist At Play! by Leada Wood, Texas Artist

Caution! Artist At Play!  I have been having fun at Studio 20 this week. I am finally getting to try out all the surface treatments that I have been reading about. The one above is tar gel...don't know what I will do with it yet but it is exciting stuff and it has lots of possibilities!

This is some of the substrates or beginnings of my new series that have a long way to go before completion.  I have learned that when working with mixed media and abstracts it is best to work on multiple paintings or a series. I use watercolor paper and my favorite colors and start painting. It takes many, many layers before they are done.

This is fiber paper with wonderful things embedded into them. You can use them as they are or cut them into shapes...the sky's the limit when it comes to mixed media! It's all about the DRAMA!

Here are a few more substrates that have a few more layers. They have been stamped, scribed into, gessoed, collaged, stenciled, spritzed with alcohol, salted and painted on...still a long way to go. Maybe you are wondering...what the heck! Well...mixed media is all about the process...the journey...the excitement of discovery. That is what gets my juices going...ahhh the artist's life is a good life and it's my life.

Sheere Moates

Sheere Moates was the guest speaker for the West Texas Art Guild, hosted by Leada Wood in Studio 20.  Sheere who owns Displays of Splendor, is an artist who operates a framing shop and art gallery.  She gave a presentation on how to choose your mats and frames to enhance the beauty of your art. It was an enlightening program and gave us lots to think about when choosing a frame.

Studio 20 by Leada Wood

My work area
I know you might think that artists just sit around and paint...but I am here to say that sometimes life gets in the way of that! We have to stop and reorganize every once in a while, take a break. I guess that is what I have been doing this new year...getting organized. I have rearranged my studio ,cleaned and whipped it into shape, so I guess now it is time to paint! I hope this new year is productive for you as well... whatever you are doing.
