"Country Church" Watercolor by Leada Wood, Texas Artist

"Country Church" is a transparent watercolor honoring small community churches. This old church is over 100 years old and still in operation every Sunday. The faithful continue to enter the doors and rejoice with singing.

This painting was a gift for my Mother in law whose family helped establish the church and worshiped there.

I am grateful to all the men and women who have served our country so that we can keep our freedoms. Wishing you and yours a safe and happy Memorial Day weekend!

By The Light Of The Moon by Leada Wood©2015

Day 13 of the 30-30 challenge

So far during this challenge I have been trying to paint objects in sunlight. I thought for a change of pace I would try a night time scene, by moonlight. This is a study of a pumpkin truck in the moonlight.

Day 8 of the 30-30 Challenge

Some days it is just harder to get it done, as simple as this looks...it takes time. This is my first attempt to render a lemon in watercolor and a learning curve. Painting yellows in watercolors is
not easy, it is difficult to get various shades of the hue. That is why I enjoy the 30-30 challenge...it pushes me to try new things and to do a painting a day. Thanks for stopping by!

Happy 4th Of July America! by Leada Wood, Texas Artist

Happy 4th of July America!

Celebration, by Leada Wood

Fireworks and Freedom always come to my mind when I think about the 4th of July. Along with swimming, sunburns, watermelon, homemade ice cream, family, friends and cookouts. I guess I am about as traditional as it gets when it comes to holidays. Wishing you a happy 4th!

Day Nine-30-30 Challenge by Leada Wood

It's Show Time Copyright 2015 Leada Wood

It is show time in Texas...stockshow that is. My grandsons raise Boer goats and it is a lot of work and dedication, for the boys as well as their parents. During ice storms, snow storms or rainy weather those goats have to be fed, watered and walked. Then comes the fun of the show! Those goats still have to be fed, watered and walked but at least they do get to go to some fun places to show. I am proud of all the young people learning hard work and dedication through 4H and FFA. Good luck boys!

Day Three- 30/30 Challenge by Leada Wood, Texas Artist

Third day of Leslie Saeta's January Challenge. Still cold and icy in Texas but the sun is shining and the ice is melting as I type and I am flying the coup today! I am doing small paintings so I thought I would do a notecard and catch up on some corespondence, sort of killing two birds with one stone. Plus it is fun to get a letter in the mail!

Our kids have Corgis and they are fun dogs to have...full of life and very protective of their kids...good snake finders too. I enjoy painting all kind of animals but had not tried a Corgi until today. This is a 5x7 watercolor, and my first Corgi. I hope my grand daughter Katie will like it as it is a thank you note for her.

Day Two- 30 Paintings In 30 Days

Hot Cocoa by Leada Wood copyright 2015

The weather is still chilly and icy as I guess winter should be, but living in Texas we are just not use to that! Cold weather calls for lots of hot cocoa and coffee at our house...mostly coffee. This little snowman mug has held lots of hot coca in his day and I decided he would be fun to paint. I don't have a theme in mind for the challenge as sometimes I do, I am just going where my muse takes me. Stay warm and thanks for stopping by!

"Roadrunner's Gift" by Leada Wood, Texas Artist

Day 6 of Leslie Saeta's 30 paintings in 30 days. I am still hanging in there. I am not a fast painter and enjoy the process of the painting so this is a real challenge for me! I may learn to paint faster!

I live in Texas and the land around my house is terra cotta clay color, good old red dirt. We live on a small ranch and have llamas, sheep, goats and lots of birds. One particularly fine summer morning I got to noticing sticks at my front door and wondered where they came from. A mystery. The next morning I heard a tapping on the front glass door so I go to investigate. There was the roadrunner with another gift of a stick in his mouth to leave at the door. I don't know if he was thanking me for the cat food and scraps I put out or if he saw himself in the glass and was courting the pretty bird! Anyway he kept it up for a while and I guess he eventually gave up on the pretty bird and moved on. I still have visits from him, he likes to sneak around on the porch and window peek.

That is the story and the inspiration for my painting Roadrunners Gift. I hope you enjoyed it! Thanks for looking!

Magic Fiddle by Leada Wood, Texas Artist

Nothing like waiting until the 11th hour to do my Christmas painting. I thought that I wasn't going to get around to doing my annual Christmas painting this year. The closer it got to Christmas I felt compelled to get it done! I just could not let a year go by without it...it wouldn't seem like Christmas!

My Daddy played the fiddle and lots of other instruments. This little Christmas elf is a tribute to him as he always kept the spirit of Christmas well.

I hope my watercolor painting made your day a little brighter and brought a smile to your face. I wish you a joyous Christmas season filled with family, friends, music, love and laughter! Merry Christmas!

Fun On The Fourth! by Leada Wood, Texas Artist

Fun On The Fourth by Leada Wood©

Happy 4th of July! I am so thankful that I live in the land of the free and the home of the brave.  I really don't think a lot of folks think about how fortunate we are to live in the USA. We get involved with living in our own little orbits and just accept what we have. Things are changing that is for sure but it still seems like the best place to live on this old blue planet. I hope you think about all our freedoms and liberties that we enjoy but were paid for with a high price this 4th.

I wish you a fun filled day surrounded by family and friends enjoying the simple pleasures of life.

This painting is a 15x22 watercolor and is in my private collection. I just wanted to share it with you.
Thanks for stopping by!

The Guardian by Leada Wood, Artist Of Texas

THE GUARDIAN BY LEADA WOOD©

In view of the horrific shootings last week I thought it would be timely to pause and remember that God is always near and in control ...even in the mist of evil.

"Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication, with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God; and the peace of God which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus" Philippians 4:6-7

God's peace is different from the world's peace. True peace is not found in positive thinking, in absence of conflict, or in good feelings. It comes from knowing that God is in control. Our  citizenship in Christ's kingdom is sure, our destiny is set, and we can have victory over evil. Let God's peace guard your heart against anxiety.

I hope peace will prevail in your hearts this Christmas season. Love your family and friends like there is no tomorrow, hold them near and dear. The past is gone...the future is uncertain... Today is a gift..use your time wisely.

The Messenger by Leada Wood©

The Messenger by Leada Wood©

And suddenly there was with the angel a multitude of heavenly host praising God and saying:
"Glory to God in the hightest,
And on earth peace, goodwill toward men!"
Luke 2:13-14

I love to paint angels, whether at Christmas or any time of the year. They are especially meaningful to me this year as my own dear mama has gone home to her heavenly reward. I wish you joy and peace this Christmas and may it continue into the new year.

Nutty Trio by Leada Wood

Nutty Trio by Leada Wood©

This is a fun painting I created from a still life set up of three of my nutcrackers. It is 15x22 watercolor on Arches Archival paper. I collect nutcrackers in all sizes and the more unusual the better. This is the countdown to Christmas! Hope you are enjoying it so far, and may all your days be merry and bright!

More Sprinkles Please! By Leada Wood

More Sprinkles Please! by Leada Wood
http://www.leadawood.com/

It's been a very long, hot, dry summer in Texas.  All kind of records have been set and broken. I wonder if it has been a really good year for the ice cream factories...that would be interesting to know.
I painted this 8x10 watercolor for Inspiration Avenue's weekly challenge, ICY.  Nothing cools you down like a bowl of ice cream, when it is hot outside.

Cat's Tea Party by Leada Wood ©

I found a new site that looked like it would be fun... it's Inspiration Avenue. I think they have a weekly challenge and that will certainly keep me on my toes! This week's challenge is Tea Time. I love everything about tea time! I collect unusual teapots and enjoy setting up still lifes and painting them. I usually paint in watercolor but enjoy collage and mixed media as well. Cat's Tea Party is in watercolor  and is sold but prints are available. Contact me at www.leadawood.com  and I would love to have you follow my blog www.leadawood.com/blog .

Cozy Kitty by Leada Wood© , Artist of Texas

Cozy Kitty by Leada Wood ©

This cute kitty lives down the road from Studio Twenty at Lattie's Mexican Imports. This chimenea sets on her counter with Tootles laying, waiting for Lattie to wiggle his feather toy at the top. Then he springs into action and it is Play Time! This painting has been in process for a while as I have been side tracked with torn paper collage paintings, but I finally got er done!

To purchase this painting or any on my blog or website just contact me and I will ship it to you. Thanks for looking!
