The Forsythia is blooming...it always blooms in February...sometimes in the snow and it reminds me of Mama. She loved the color yellow and its bright cheery hue is a pleasant respite from the grey of winter, a promise that Spring isn't far away. Today there are bees buzzing and drinking the sweet nectar that it offers and two yellow butterflies floating around the fragrant bush. It is a beautiful day for soaking in the sunshine. I have had these bushes for a long time. Mama dug them up with my Dad and brother in the woods in Virginia and brought them home to Texas. She loved her Forsythia and looked forward to its bright blooms every February.  I now continue the cycle, happy to see its blooms and remember  Mama.

First Friday Art Trails are always such an event in Lubbock. These people know how to support the Arts! The weather was chilly and still the art lovers came in waves. It makes me grateful to be able to participate in this amazing celebration of the Arts. Lots of lovely galleries line the Arts District with Trolleys and Buses to take you around. I throughly enjoyed myself and plan to participate every chance I get.

Took a moment while it wasn't so busy to snap a photo. I am so happy to be a member of the Art League of West Texas Foundation such an active and fun group!

First Friday Art Trail by Leada Wood, Texas Artist

It's that time again! Don't the months seem to zip by  faster and faster? Whoever said time flies was spot on.
February is the month of love and what better way to say "I love you" than  a romantic evening in the art district in Lubbock, Texas. First Friday will be happening February 3rd from 5pm until 10pm. I will be selling my original art at the Louise Underwood Center For The Arts, if you are in the area please stop by and say hi.

Our sweet family loves to go to the beach...maybe because we live in dry west Texas and the water beckons to us like sirens of old. You know sirens, the sea nymphs...part woman and part bird who lured mariners by their seductive singing. They were also quite beautiful. Getting a little off track here but the beach does call our name and we do make several trecks  a year to enjoy the sea.

Maybe that is why I enjoy painting the kids doing beach things so I can flash back in my mind to the days we were there and having great fun. Life is slower and a little sweeter there and we play more. Nothing like fun in the sun on any beach.

I have painted this scene twice before but still I am trying to capture the essence of the scene. I think I am getting closer! I loved the light in the photograph and the closeness of the boys sharing an experience they both enjoyed.

I am honored to be a part of the LHUAC's invitational 20th year celebration. The show opens Friday in Lubbock in conjunction with the First Friday Art Trail and will run thru February. This piece is 12x12 with hand painted papers, found papers and a small clay sculpture and is available through the Art Center.

"Hear The Angels Sing" is my new solo Christmas exhibit of angels I have painted through the years. Created in Watercolor, Acrylic, Mixed Media, Monoprint, and Collage, it makes an interesting and versatile exhibition. The show will run the month of December at First Bank, Colorado City.

"Writing On The Wall" was created for the Lubbock Art League
 show at the Legacy Gallery. It is a mixed media triptych in collage and acrylic with lots of texture and is 30" by 54", this is the middle panel.

"Dreaming Of Wonderland" won another blue ribbon at the Big Country Regional Art Show.  I had so much fun creating this mixed media painting. I  enjoy doing figure paintings in a way that they might remind you of someone you know. I have so many models that my muses will keep me painting for a lifetime.
