January Challenge by Leada Wood, Texas Artist

Day 15 of the 30 objects in 30 days challenge. Half way point! I absolutely have thought a few times during this challenge I had lost my marbles for doing it! Just to prove that I haven’t I decided to paint one of my favorite marbles from my collection. Yes, I have a jar of marbles that was passed down from my Dad, I guess that is one reason I love the little glass orbs too.

The inspiration came from my shooter marbles that were my Dads and I loved the colors on this one. It is painted on a kids flash card 3x5 with an acrylic background. I then painted the marble in watercolor and gouache. I let the original flash card show through the background of acrylic paint for interest. Then I photographed it on another acrylic painted background.

"If every year was a marble, how many marbles do you have left? How many sunrises, how many opportunities to rise to the full stature of your being."---Joy Page

That is why I enjoy doing these challenges, to rise up and see if I can complete the task at hand. There is plenty going on in my life and I really don't need more to do but who can resist a challenge?

January Challenge by Leada Wood, Texas Artist

Day two of the 30 objects in 30 days January challenge. I think January is an awesome time for a challenge. The weather is usually icky and I am hibernating and it is time for new beginnings. In the art world if you are not painting or drawing every day you lose ground. Just as in any thing practice keeps you limber.

I have a set of 3 silver bells, one for each of my kids. I have never polished them as I love the patina of old objects. During this challenge I am trying new things. Painting an old tarnished silver bell with out shiny metallic paint is a challenge and next to its shadow even more of one. I also am painting on kids flashcards which are 3x5 with random backgrounds. The cards were prepped first and making the object cohesive with the card is a challenge of its own. I also am trying to allow the background to show though the object in places.

January Challenge, by Leada Wood, Texas Artist

Nothing says new year like starting with a challenge! Painting 30 paintings in 30 days is exhilarating ...kind of like running a marathon only with a paintbrush. I decided I would get my backgrounds ready with a layer of gesso and acrylic paint applied to flash cards. It is allowed and I also have been gathering objects I might want to paint. Just because these are small doesn’t meant they take less time or aren’t as much of a challenge. Sometimes painting smaller is more difficult. These probably won’t be masterpieces but fun little exercises to get my creative juices going for 2019.
Wishing you new experiences and a healthy, happy new year!

Day Twenty Five 30-30 Challenge by Leada Wood, Texas Artist

Sun Kissed copyright 2015 Leada Wood

One of my favorite flowers and I paint them often. Their cheery yellow color would brighten up the greyest day. I like to paint them juxtaposed against the bright blue Texas sky...I may have used my artistic license a little on the sky. I am so thankful the sunflower is one of our native flowers and grow wild up and down our country roads along with Mexican Hats, Indian Paintbrush, Bluebonnets and lots of others. I think I may have spring fever.

Day Four- 30/30Challenge by Leada Wood, Texas Artist

Mr. Red Bird, copyright 2015 Leada Wood

The sun is shining today in Texas but it is still very cold outside. The birds have been busy flitting around gathering seeds , fluffing their feathers and trying to stay warm. I just love to watch them and especially Mr. Red Bird as he really brightens up the day with his antics. He is constantly darting to and fro and it is very hard to get his photo but I manage. I guess when you are a brilliant red it makes you an easy target for cat predators. That reminds me...I had better go feed the cats!
What kind of birds are you enjoying around your feeders?
