It’s Begining To Look A Lot Like Christmas! By Leada Wood

Although there’s no snow…there’s lots of Mistletoe and Prickly Pears here in the Wild West. When I think of snow I think of Breckenridge . I love going to Breckenridge Colorado during the winter, the whole town is decorated and is a Christmas vision all winter long….Enchanting. I have enjoyed recreating some of those inspired memories in paint. I hope you enjoy them too.

These are a few  of my paintings that are in the Caboose Watercolor Society’s Winter Wonderland Show at the Heritage Museum. Better hurry if you want to see it because time is running out.

I’ll be home for Christmas, you can plan on me. Please have snow and Mistletoe and presents on the tree. Christmas Eve will find me where the love light gleams. I’ll be home for Christmas, if only in my dreams”.  —-Kim Gannon

Do All Things With Love by Leada Wood

As soon as the calendar says February my thoughts turn to Valentines and of course making some cards. I always have loved Valentines Day. Growing up it meant decorating a box to take to school so your classmates could put cards in it and you could give them cards. Did I mention making the box included getting to cut and paste and paint things? To this day it still gives me such pleasure to create things! Wishing you a Happy Valentines Day full of love and sweet pleasures!

These are the cards I made this Valentines.

Drawn Into Life by Leada Wood

I love drawing and nothing gives me more pleasure than drawing animals, especially dogs. They draw me in, relax me and put me into my happy place. I start with their eyes and if I cannot get that soulful look I start over. Lately I have been doing commissions, trying to capture the beloved pups who have crossed the Rainbow Bridge.  Very difficult, working from not so great photos, hope against hope that I can capture their spirit and bring joy to the owner. I thought I would share a few with you.

To all the dogs I’ve loved before, who traveled in and out my door. I’m glad they came along, I dedicate this blog to all the dogs I’ve loved before.

Haiku and Life by Leada Wood

Living in the moment, to be present to focus. Very difficult to do in our modern world with all the shiny things to distract us and more information at our fingertips than our brains can handle. Maybe the Japanese have it right with Haiku poetry. A simple poem featuring an image to depict the essence of a specific moment in time. It only consists of three lines of five, seven and five syllables, focusing on the presence of being.

Poetry, Art, Life, all interweave to create the muse, a dance...of the mind and hand. It flows onto the page to reveal the heart of the artist.

I watch the Redbirds in the winter trees as they hop around flashing bits of red trying to fit in with the grey winter days, a bright spot in a winter landscape. They inspire me to capture the moment in paint and verse...to be present in my life and focus on one moment at a time.

 “Live Joyfully”

A perfect end to summer is a trip to South Padre to recharge.  I know when I see the  lighthouse at Port Isabel and cross the bridge I am on Island time. There is something about being at the sea that calms my soul.

Sea Oats on the sand dunes.

Port Isabel Lighthouse from the bridge leaving the island. The inspiration for my watercolor study.

I love watching the sea birds especially the Pelicans and Herons. We took a couple of the boys night crabbing with flashlights. What fun it was to see the little critters scuttling sideways by flashlight beam with a full moon rising over the sea. The little boys were so cute trying to get out of the crabs way when they came charging and then chasing after them. A night to remember and a great adventure!

The Monarchs are here so I know it really is fall! Amazingly short summer  this year but I love the autumn and I am delighted to see it arrive.

Offerings from our Burr Oaks. Fall brings sweeter weather, spectacular displays of foliage and colorful grasses, and harvest celebrations. It marks the start of a glorious season, shorter days and cozy, cooler nights. A season of change in this circle of life.

“Autumn is an artist who uses an oak leaf on which to paint a masterpiece.”
