Right Brained by Leada Wood, Artist of Texas

Right Brained by Leada Wood©

I am very right brained...so does that mean I am in my right mind? I certaintly hope so!
This funny fellow is either having a bad hair day or has a very creative hairdo!
This painting is 8x8, acrylic on canvas and is sold!
Prints are available just contact me at: www.leada_w@hotmail.com for more info.

I am the right brain. I am creativity...a free spirit. I am passion...yearning...sensuality.
I am the sound of roaring laughter. I am taste. The feeling of sand beneath bare feet.
I am movement...vivid colors...I am the urge to paint on an empty canvas.
I am boundless imagination...Art...Poetry.  I sense...I feel.
I am everything I wanted to be.

White Line Fever by Leada Wood

White Line Fever by Leada Wood ©

This is another Journey Painting that I did in Douglas Walton's workshop.  These paintings are pure spirit and pure energy...letting go and letting the painting develop...decreasing the complexity of the composition and increasing the energy of the paint. I started with a very free under painting and then applied a journey drawing on top and added what I thought it needed to complete the composition. This painting is still in the incubation stage waiting for insight to come. I think I will probably add something in the black square to give the focal point more interest. Any suggestions?

Ascension by Leada Wood

Ascension by Leada Wood©

Taking a workshop with M. Douglas Walton is always an adventure in creativity. I created this painting in his workshop. It began as a journey drawing, 8x11,which I enlarged to a full sheet, 22x28 and put on hot pressed watercolor paper. I then put texture randomly on the paper...let it dry and did an under painting with latex paint, and then continued my journey in painting, bringing it to completion.

Art Journaling by Leada Wood

Art Journaling by Leada Wood©

During the Holidays I entered a painting in Creative Catalyst's Paint Out and I was one of the winners! I won Ann Bagby's new DVD "The Grunge Book: An Acrylic Art Journal". The DVD was very inspirational and got me fired up AGAIN to do an art journal.
One of the things I wanted to accomplish this year was to start an art journal and draw and paint in it everyday....wellll...it hasn't happened yet! I have decorated several journal covers but have not until now started the inside of the book. Today I changed all that...I BEGAN my art journal. There is a little preparation in getting your book started but I think it will be worth the effort.

I keep files of words and pictures that spark my imagination and that is what I turn to when I want to play. It is very helpful and gets me going. Sometimes I add a veil of paint transparently so that I can paint on top of that and the words are not so obvious.

May You Be Filled by Leada Wood

Be filled with joy!

During my devotional studies  I have been reading about being filled...how we should be filled at all times...overflowing. We should be filled with love...filled with joy...filled with laughter. I know that at times it is hard to be filled...life gets in the way...that is when we should slow down and have a closer walk...listening for that quiet voice to lift our spirits and fill us with joy!

They say that laughter is the best medicine...it's not an old wives tale, it is proven medically. Laughing protects the heart, relaxes the body, lifts the spirits, relieves stress, releases endorphins and boosts the immune system, which in turn improves resistance to disease. I don't know about you but I think the world could use more laughter! Don't feel like laughing? Begin with a smile, give one to everyone you meet, it's contagious...before long you will feel like laughing!

I know I am fortunate and I have many blessings in my life...two of them are pictured here. Children are filled with joy and their laughter is contagious, such fun to be around. I am thankful for my blessings and for the gift of creativity that I can share with others the joy it brings to me. Creating gives me joy...and it spills out into the rest of my life...it is my gift. Everyone has a gift, I hope you have found yours and it is bringing you great joy! Be sure to share your joy!

Creativity by Leada Wood

I have always been creative....and now I have found out not only is it fun but is also good for my health! I said I wasn't making resolutions this year but creating goals for myself.  My main goal is to get in shape, physically and mentally.  I have started the year by walking, an easy beginning, and now I have added going to Curves. The main thing is to stay committed!

Back to creativity...Researchers say that creative activity helps people feel healthier, experience fewer physical problems and makes you feel younger! Don't feel as though you are creative? Don't sell yourself short! You probably perform hundreds of creative tasks each day without realizing it. Creativity is really just about finding original solutions to problems and new ways of looking at old situations.  In a  way, it is just problem solving or anything that engages your thought process and challenges you to come up with new ideas. Creative activities are more than just a way to pass time, they're great for bolstering your mental and physical well-being.

Throwing yourself into a creative endeavor is a great way to reduce stress and is an excellent defense against memory loss. Whether you chose to engage your creativity with a group activity or go solo you will reap rewards. When you busy your mind with a creative activity, you enter the zone, which releases chemicals to the body and makes you feel good!

I don't know about you but enough said! I am glad that being creative is good for you! I have been trying to be more creative every day as well as exercising. Drag out that old sketch book and doodle or draw in it as you have your morning coffee. Better yet, get busy and create an art journal, where you can try out some of those ideas that have been in your head. It's only paper...go ahead and have some fun!

Here's to your health and a more creative you! After all isn't that what a new year is about...new beginnings?
