Happy Birds, by Leada Wood, Texas Artist






When we were children, times were simpler and it seemed logical that if we wished it, our thoughts might make them become true. It is always better to look on the bright side and have hope and see things through the eyes of a child. Seeing that our world is still full of wonders and miracles.

Happy Birds By Leada Wood, Texas Artist

On the ground sits a bird that's too afraid to fly.
Beautiful wings could make it soar, but the pain of past failure is its lonesome cry.
 God has said unto this bird,"Trust and have faith in me, for i will carry you in your flight.
The miracle of life is waiting for you to see."
The bird said to God "but I can't fly I am weak. I will fall and feel pain. It's happened before when I tried to fly.
I'm afraid of being hurt again.
His voice was soft and reassuring , God said to the bird,
"I created you, and I will protect you. Your lonesome cry I have heard. Have faith in me. That's all you need to do.
So stand up, bird, and spread your wings. The wings I lovingly created to let you fly. If you fall I'll pick you up, and lift you back into the sky."
With trembling legs and unsure wings, the bird finally looked to the sky. It took a deep breath and took the chance. The bird began to fly.
Thank you God for believing in me. Thank you for giving me  wings. Thank you for your protecting hands. Your glory I will now sing.

"Happy birds" by Leada Wood, Texas Artist




My Happy Birds all in a row have flown the coop and are making their ways to their new homes. iHannas 2017 autumn international postcard exchange was fun but now I must move on and create new images and stories. I have been getting little works of art in my post for a couple of weeks now from everywhere. Thank you to Hanna Anderson who lives in Sweden for hosting yet another wonderful exchange!




Here are my happy birds along with the envelopes I painted for the international cards. I was afraid that they might get lost on such a long flight. I sent cards to Israel, United Kingdom, Luxembourg, Sweden, Australia, South Africa, Sverige, as well as Indiana, California and Washington. I will share the ones I received on another post later. It must be the heat, keeping me indoors making me restless,so I headed to my studio to try some new techniques in watercolor. I used Arches 140# and drew a simple composition. I then decided to add Unyru paper bits here and there to give some texture and interest to the composition. When the collage was dry I painted the pears transparently with watercolor. Then I divided up the background and went in with dark complimentary colors, wet on wet. While this was still damp I used a stencil and sanded a watercolor pencil over it, misting it to activate the specks of color. It was a fun experiment mixing media in watercolor and I am pleased with the mystery and drama it gives to the painting. Thanks for stopping by!

Day Eighteem-30-30 Challenge by Leada Wood, Texas Artist

It was such a beautiful, sunshiny day in Texas I hated to be indoors! Glamour Gal beckoned me and I heeded her call, but I ran in and out while paint dried so the best of both worlds as they say. I am sure if it wasn't for the challenge Glamour Gal would not have been created today.

My Grandma had a Basett Hound named Bobo...I still can see him in my minds eye. Bobo was a large Basett but of course I was pretty small so everything looked big.  I remember my cousins and I standing peering over the little fence of his outdoors cage. I don't know what fascinated me about Bobo...maybe it was his sad eyes. Grandma  would let us feed Bobo little doggie treats and one of the kids gave our younger cousin a doggie treat too. I think someone got a spanking!

Day Sixteen - 30-30 Challenge by Leada Wood, Texas Artist

Day Sixteen of the 30 paintings in 30 days challenge and I am on the down hill run! Whoohoo! It is amazing how when you get in the groove how many more paintings come to mind. Yes they are rather simple and small but fun to create. I sometimes do anywhere from one to 3 drawings at night after hours. I have plans that some of these will develop further into larger more complex paintings...the ole creative juices are flowing again. That is one reason I enjoy doing the challenge it gets me going after all the holidays.

So Happy Together was created on one of those canvas boards I started right before the challenge. I did a previous post on them about working in a series. That is the nice thing about putting layers of collage and paint on...you have a ready surface when an idea strikes and you can develop it further.  Oh and preparing the canvas was allowed in the challenge!
