Day 10 of the 30-30 challenge.

Misty Morning is a Batik watercolor created with wax, watercolor and a very transparent, handcrafted paper.  Look closely and you can see the fibers of the paper... I like the texture it gives to a painting.

PURPLE IRIS BY LEADA WOOD, TEXAS ARTIST

PURPLE IRIS BY LEADA WOOD

I was reading an article by Kathie George on batik watercolors. Although I have been doing batik watercolor for a long time her technique was a little different from mine so I thought I would give it a go. I used my mixture of batik wax instead of paraffin like she suggested.  I did enjoy using brushes instead of the batik tools I normally use.  I enjoy the feel and the looseness it gives to the painting. The scariest part of all, in both techniques is at the end when you wad your rice paper into a ball. Sometimes holes occur so one must proceed with caution and practice. I also have done batik  with  acrylic paint and that's another whole ball of wax!
Have a great weekend!

MOON FLOWERS BY LEADA WOOD, ARTIST OF TEXAS

MOON FLOWERS BY LEADA WOOD©

This one has been a long time in the finishing stage...thought it was done and then did a lot more to it and finally I think it is done!

My mom and grandmother always had moon flowers, ever since I can remember. They only bloom at night and sometimes when it is a cloudy morning they  stay in bloom. I don't know why I have never planted them, maybe it is because I know they are poisonous and there are too many little flower pickers around our place. I think I may consider planting them at a distance where the flower pickers or llamas can't get to them. I am ready for spring!

This painting is 22x28 transparent watercolor and is available.

Ruby Reds by Leada Wood ©

Ruby Reds by Leada Wood ©

The tulip originated centuries ago in Persia and Turkey, where it played a significant role in the art and culture of the time. Most likely commenting on the Turkish tradition of wearing tulips in one's turban, Europeans mistakenly gave tulips their name, which comes from the Persian word meaning turban. As Europeans began taking to tulips, the flower's popularity spread quickly, particularly in the Netherlands where a phenomenon dubbed tulip mania set in at one point during the 17th century. Tulips became so highly-prized that prices were sent soaring and markets crashing. Tulips are now grown throughout the world, but people still identify cultivated varieties as "Dutch tulips." Red tulips represent true love and the belief in love. Happy Valentine's Day!

Dancin' In The Wind by Leada Wood©

Dancin' In The Wind by Leada Wood©

These beautiful, warm winter days have me longing for Spring. One of my favorite flowers in the Spring is pink tulips. They don't last long in our part of the world as the warm days and wind usually make their stay shorter, but we can enjoy them for a little while.

This  little gem is only 5x7 done in transparent watercolor from photos of my previous spring tulips.

Cozy Kitty by Leada Wood© , Artist of Texas

Cozy Kitty by Leada Wood ©

This cute kitty lives down the road from Studio Twenty at Lattie's Mexican Imports. This chimenea sets on her counter with Tootles laying, waiting for Lattie to wiggle his feather toy at the top. Then he springs into action and it is Play Time! This painting has been in process for a while as I have been side tracked with torn paper collage paintings, but I finally got er done!

To purchase this painting or any on my blog or website just contact me and I will ship it to you. Thanks for looking!
